Pelly
Forced to leave behind everything she knows, Sandra moves with her father to the city and finds it a lonely place. The river valley in Saskatoon reminds Sandra of her home further north. Against her father's wishes, she begins to spend all of her free time along the river's banks. Sandra watches a flock of pelicans and brings bits of food to one young bird–Pelly. When the pelicans fly south in the fall, Pelly remains behind. Can Sandra keep her friend alive through the bitterly cold prairie winter?
